10 ways to budget your allowance

Budgeting an allowance is a piece of cake if you know these 10 techniques of mine. Curious? Read on..

1.      Compute your transportation expanses for the whole week. Be firm that you do not touch this amount of money that you will set aside to avoid asking additional money from parents.

2.      Create a list. Make a list of the things that you need and want. Prioritize.

3.      Secure savings. Keep your savings far away from you-away from temptation. Leave it at home, or deposit it in the bank, anywhere is safe except in y our hands.

4.      5 pesos a day. Buy a piggy bank-one that can't be opened easily. Cultivate a habit to put 5 pesos a day in your piggy bank. By the end of the year, you'll be thankful you tried this.

5.      Make a list of all your expanses. Put everything into writing to avoid wondering where you have spent your money on.

6.      Implement self-discipline. Make it a point to never ask additional money from your parents. Create a budget outline and work within that budget. You'll survive.

7.      Serve and earn. You can earn extra money by applying for a part-time job. Or maybe you can come up with a gimmick? Like carpooling? It's worth a try.

8.      Do not buy things impulsively. Seasonal sales are very tempting but not everything on sale is a good buy. Learn how to save enough money and to keep an eagle's eye out for the best purchase price.

9.      Be an entrepreneur. Make and sell stuffs to your friends. Be enterprising.

10.  Long term savings. Make a list of the things that you want to save for in the long-run. Perhaps a laptop? Or an Ipod? Or maybe you could save up for your tuition fees? This will teach you how to plan ahead.

Top 5 Favorite Programs

A bookish person? No time to watch television? Rather listen to music? Consider watching TV a waste of time? Welcome to my world. But hey, I am not a STRICTLY NO TV GAL. Every once in a while I take time off to watch these programs.

CHARMED

Watch 3 witches the Halliwell sisters "Charmed Ones" as they use their special abilities to protect mankind from demons, evil witches and warlocks.

I started watching "Charmed" since I was 8 and I have stayed tune till the very end. It has an interesting plot that entices a person to patronize the show.

SMALLVILLE
Watch Clark Kent "Man of Steel" as he struggles to control his supernatural abilities that will eventually transform him into Superman.

Smallville's intriguing story accompanied by a realistic science-fiction/teen drama was what caught my attention and not to mention the talented and gorgeous young cast of Smallville.

TWO AND A HALF MAN

Two adults. One kid. No grown ups. Charlie, a happy-go-lucky man living in a luxurious beach-house, accommodates his brother-Alan who was thrown out of his own house and his nephew Jake. The story resolves around their conflicting lifestyle.

The script is hilarious and the acting was marvelous. This sitcom cheers me up instantly whenever I am having the blues.

CSI

Grissom leads his elite team of investigators in solving perplexing cases. With the help of high end equipments and superb scientific skills, the team finds important evidences which are crucial to the case.

CSI is highly educational for criminology students. This mind-boggling TV series has definitely sharpen my thinking skills and attentiveness.

SCOOBYDOO THE CARTOONS

The cast consists of a scaredy cat Scoobydoo, Shaggy, Velma, Fred and Daphne. They drive around in their "Mystery Machine" hunting and soling mysterious cases.

I simply looove Scoobydoo. It reminds me of the times when I was a child eagerly anticipating each and every Scoobydoo episode. A must-see shoe for kids of all age.

HERE IS AN ARTICLE I JUST WROTE YESTERDAY AND SENT TO MY FRIENDS, CLASSMATES AND ASSOCIATES HERE AND ABROAD....THANKS FOR READING...

"WHY" FIRST, "WHAT" NEXT

"Nothing happens without a cause", Albert Einstein said. Conclusively, he came up with his famous dictum: "God does not play dice with the universe".

Any action must have a cause. A police investigator, fiscal or defense lawyer looks at the motive of a suspect. This will determine the culpability or non-culpability of an act.

In the choice of names, such selection may be predetermined by the motive of parents unless, paraphrasing Einstein, "they are playing dice with their child's name." If the parents' motive is good which I presume it is, then knowing the "what" in one's name is easily discernible.

Now that some of us are old enough to understand the what, the why and the how of some normal and quirky events in life, have we curiously asked our parents if they are still living why they named us in such a way. There is nothing too late for such a query to determine their motive of giving us that name.

Before imputing parental motive, let us reflect back our history as our names reveal our country's past. The genealogy of Filipino names, both surnames and given names, depicts the colonial subjugation of the Filipino race from the Spanish invaders to the American colonizers. Between those two periods, the Filipinos were briefly ruled by the Japanese. Intermarriages took place between them and so names were changed. After World War II when Filipinos started migrating to foreign lands and married other nationalities, new hybrid names came to the fore. From the "de la Cruz" to the " Santos ", the Spanish nominal influence. Then the "Fujisaki" to the "Edwards", the Japanese and American Era. Today, the "Curtis" to "Kim's" and the "Cindy's", the hybrid of names from European, Asian and other nationalities.

And so, we go to motive. Let me sample my name "Manuel". Definitely it comes from my father's name who was a junior to his dad, Manuel, Sr, my grandfather. When my parents named me so, their motive was to perpetuate the name "Manuel" which by religious significance means "son of God". Without being irreverent, by Christian tradition and the rite of baptism, we automatically become sons and daughters of God. So why insist on the name "Manuel"?  Well, Filipino males are narcissists so perhaps, perpetuating their names means a lot to their egos. It adds a little stress to their children when they have to live up to their names.

I know of someone who was named "Jumbo" after the 747 Jumbo jet. His brother was also named "Hawker" after that British brand jet. Of course, the father is a pilot. That is better than naming daughters after their aunts, grandmothers and mothers like Maria Luisa Garcia de la Vega. The poor child had to memorize and remember the names in kindergarten.

Parents have funny or weird motives in giving their children names. When I trained at a call center for outbound sales agent, I came across a man named "Jesse James". Then, there was another named after the author of the famous sex books "Nexus" and "Plexus". When I commented what significant names they had, the response was very telling but realistic: "That famous Western outlaw, huh?" and "I know that one who wrote lust books."

Can one change his/her name if it causes  embarrassment? Yes, there is a legal process known as Petition to Change a Name. Another instance is during a naturalization proceeding. I remember during my final naturalization interview, the hearing officer asked me if I wished to change my name. I never hesitated to say "No".  Had my name been "Casimiro Bukayo" then, I would have said, "Yes, sir, change it to CASMERE BOUQUET. That smells fresh than a burnt sugar.

No, I like my name, "the son of God born immaculate". I am sorry if the Good Lord will confront me someday and say: "Goodness, what a son…sinful like chocolate!"

Thanks for the parental motive of that name. Thanks for the memories.

RE: Application with Fabewriters

Vic,

Thanks a lot for the nice email reply. For writers like us, it uplifts the spirit. But I have to keep on surviving as a writer so that my "fighting" form will still be around to write and think creatively (in your words, "out of the box")...a fighting spirit. Did I get you right...P50.00 per article of 400 words?
That is just about $1.10. Can You not up the ante?
As for my taxi anecdotes, may I suggest if you don't mind. What about putting a regular column on my taxi stories similar to the Philippine Version of the "gimikero" FHM? That is more
duable and practical if you are putting up a magazine in the USA or Philippines. My taxi stories will give your magazine an inducement for intended customers to buy it considering the explosive and sensational matters which I have gathered for the past 5 years of riding a cab in the Philippines. In fact, if you have a movie director or movie screen writer, we can make it into a movie?
If you reconsider the amount of your price per article, I will call on the muse to inspire me to write more "out-of-the-box" articles. Otherwise, I can hardly get to the MRT Line for a quick ride to my interview appointments.
Thanks a lot. Hope for your reply.

Are you a Fool in Love?

Dr. Margie Holmes is an articulate psychiatrist. She explains well in layman terms usual issues that surroud the common Filipino.

One is Falling in Love. When do you know that you're already a Fool in Love.

As for me, whenever I fall in love, I really love the person. I really don't care if I get hurt. What's important is that I have no guilt feelings after.
